Normally I pick up those books which are recommended by friends but this one came as a pleasant surprise as it was bought by my sister and I had no clue about it.
When I picked up the book to read, I found the title very preculiar. I thought the book would be like those “self help books” which preach tons of faff to their readers. But I am glad that I was wrong.
The book is about the re-union of a student with his professor who was his favorite at his college days. It is about serendipity and the fact that “stuff happens”. It is about a brand new pespective to see adversity and still maintain a smile on face. It is about life and its learnings!!!
The professor’s name is Morrie and the student is Mitch, the author of the book. Mitch is climbing up the professional ladder at a fast pace but at the cost of his social life which is drained of true emotions. One night while surfing through the TV channels he comes across his professor on a news channel who is dying of ALS. Following the news clipping, he traces his professor and spends the last few days of his (professor) life with him. The first meeting happens on tuesday which becomes the day of the choice. And hence the book derives its name “Tuesdays with Morrie”.
On each tuesday, the professor Morrie resolves some or the other dilemmas of Mitch, the student. And it is here where the book is immensely gripping. The glass prism through which Morrie sees all those dilemmas is not only thought provoking but also inspiring. It leaves the readers wanting more. Besides the perspective taken is totally practical which makes it all the more appreciating.
The book is fact paced and one would not like to put it down once started. A must read for all the students and teachers.
