New Moon

New Moon is a fantasy-romance novel by author Stephenie Meyer. It is Meyer’s second novel in the Twilight saga. It is advised to read Twilight first. This book, unlike the previous entry, is about losing true love. It was originally published in hardcover in 2006.

The book begins with Bella turning 18, older than Edward and still human. At her birthday party she gets a paper cut while opening her gifts and her one drop of blood triggers Jasper (Edward’s brother) to attack her inspite of attempting to have a non-human diet. Edward tries to protect her; resulting in Bella crashing into glass and getting a bigger wound, gushing blood and finding herself in the midst of 6 hungry vampires. Edward is extremely sad and absolutely convinced that he and his family is not suitable for Bella. Edward convinces Bella he does not love her anymore, making her promise that she will not do anything stupid or rash and continue her life without Edward; he and his family leave Forks.

Bella is heartbroken, devastated and totally lost. She survives, tries to get on with her life and realizes in the event of things that if she does something rash she can hear Edwards’s voice in her head; cautioning her or scolding her. The hunger to hear the voice which she so deeply loves she decides to do these rash things like riding bikes, diving cliffs eventually leading her to her childhood friend Jacob Black. She finds comfort and warmth with him. Jacob is head over heels in love with Bella but knowing about her loss of love provides a shoulder to Bella hoping that some day she will get over Edward and love him in return.

Things change when Jacob transforms into a werewolf and Bella is being hunted down by vampires. Alice (Edwards’s sister) turns up at Forks when she sees Bella jump from a cliff in her vision. There are a series of misunderstandings and Edward tries to commit suicide but Bella saves him and they are reunited with Edward promising never to leave Bella again.

The book is well written with the loss of love very well expressed. With this book Jacob Black’s character is further etched. Jacob loves Bella, inspite of knowing of her deep love for his most lethal enemy; vampire. His struggles with his new found identity, jealousy, love, friendship and loyalty.

Now Bella is torn between friendship and love and the eternal enmity of werewolf and vampire. Will she be able to find a right balance? Let’s wait and find out in the next book - Eclipse.

  • Sara said: I love all the Twilight books and can read them over and over but New Moin just makes me so depressed and I wanna cry when I read it sometimes. All of my friends feel the same way and we've been reading the books since they came out and everytime I think of New Moon I wanna lock myself in my room and listen to old depressing songs. Every other book is absolutely amazing though.
  • kierstin said: New Moon Book Report I am writing about the twilight series book two, New Moon. This book is about vampires, love, hate and heartache. Bella is a human and Edward is a blood sucking vampire. In this book I will be talking about the setting. The plot and at the end of this book I will give my review as a reader. Also at the end there will be illustrations from the book. They placed this book in Forks Washington because…..Forks is the place where people say they have seen real vampires and other creepy things like that. So it gives this vampire book a chill of creepiness when you read it because it is focused on a real tourist site. They also place it there because it is never sunny and if a vampire goes in to the sun light the shine like a diamond. The characters in this book are Edward Cullen he is a vampire. His personality is kind and sweet when with Bella but if he thinks she is in danger he gets portative over her. He has short dark hair and hazel eyes and tall. Bella sawn falls in love with Edward but is human. Her personality is sweet and calm but a hard lover. She has long reddish brown hair and brown eyes. Jacob black. He likes Bella more then a friend. He has long black hair and brown eyes. Carlisle Cullen he is also a vampire but also Edwards dad. He has longish blond hair and brown eyes. Esem Cullen she is also a vampire but also Edward’s mom. She has long brown hair and brown eyes. Rosalie hale is also a vampire and Edwards step sister. She has long blond hair and brown eyes. Emmett Cullen he is also a vampire and Edwards’s brother .he has short brown hair and brown eyes. Alice Cullen is a vampire and Edward sister. She has short black hair and brown eyes. Jasper hale he is a vampire and Edwards step brother. He has long blond hair and brown eyes. He is related to Rosalie hale they are brother and sister. What happens in this book is Bella and Edward becomes a steady couple. And she has her 18th birthday and Edward and Alice have a party for her at there house but she does not want one. Even thought she dose not want one she goes to make them happy. When she is there she goes to open the gift they got her and cuts her self and Edwards younger step brother jumps at Bella because he smells her blood. Edward pushes Bella to stop jasper from biteing her but Edward and Bella fall on the all the glass plates and it cuts Bellas arm open bad and Mr. Cullen has to give her stitches. So she does not go to the hospital. Then Edward takes Bella home and he tells her he is leavening with his family so it’s over and she try’s to fallow him but gets lost in the woods and her dad comes looking for her and they find he lying on the forest floor. They take her home and she goes into a depression state for months because she misses Edward. Then she goes to Jacobs’s house and he helps her fell better but something changes Jacob and he stops talking to Bella for her safety. Then Alice comes back and tells Bella there is something up with Edward and they go to save him and when they do they meet some bad vampires and they have to make a deal to leave safely and Edward and the others come back to forks. Bella asks Edward to change her and he says no and she gets mad and tells Edward to take her to his home and tells him she is going to take a vote to see if the others want her to be a Cullen. So they vote and the answer is yes and Edward gets very mad but says he still won’t change her so Mr. Cullen says he will. Bella finely convinces Edward to change her after collage but he says only on one condition .She has to marry him. Well if you want to find out what she says you have to read the book. What do I think of the book as a reader? Well I think that the books are grate. They tell a heart worming love story of a young girl and a vampire. Those come from two different worlds. And find a way to love each other even thought the differences they have. When I was reading this book I cried because I felt like I was Bella and the book touched my heart. If you like to read about love, friendship, heartache and tears you will love this book. The story is so tucking and real you fell like it’s you in the book. If you love vampire book you will also love this book a lot because I know I did a lot.
